A WOMAN wielding a gun in the lobby of a local news station in North Carolina was taken into custody today following reports of a shot fired.
The evening broadcast of WSOC-TV was forced off the air shortly after 5pm after it was reported that a gun-wielding woman barricaded herself inside the station's lobby, WBTV-TV in Charlotte said.
At least one shot was fired.
A SWAT team removed the woman from the station on a stretcher, WBTV reported. It was not immediately clear if she was injured.
The station, which had just begun its 5pm broadcast, began playing commercials before going off the air completely.
"Channel 9 has to be off the air because of a police situation in our building. We apologise for any inconvenience," a statement on the station's website at 5:34pm read.

The building was evacuated and all employees of the station were believed to be safe.
Blair Miller, an anchor for the station tweeted developments as the situation unfolded.
"Not on air. Distraught woman with gun in lobby. Police have building surrounded. Employees evacuated," he posted.
"Woman in custody. Everyone safe. We are hearing," he added moments later.
